Looking Close to Home

Are there practical ways that you can enhance your current job so it looks like your dream job? If you have a good relationship with your boss, are there other duties you can try out with your boss's help? Or can you get yourself moved from the store you're managing at night to a day job at corporate headquarters? What are other people doing at your company? You could be in the right place, just not in the right position. In other words, your dream job may be down the hall or around the corner!

Look for opportunities to learn new skills through on-the-job training and classes. You might even try teaching somebody else, perhaps the summer intern or somebody new in your department. Mentoring or training another person will help you realize just what you do day-to-day and how you can change things to suit your goals.

In most organizations and companies, managers want their employees to excel and be happy. They love those low turnover rates! Finding your niche goes a long way toward making things better for everyone, especially yourself. It can also lead to finding your dream job right where you work today, which will prove to be a much easier transition in the long run.
