The Business End

Decided to make a fresh start with your own business? Now you need to thoroughly research your industry, target audience, expected operating expenses and competition. You'll need this information to put together a business plan that will serve as your road map for success. It's your GPS to get you there!

While it may be tempting to rush toward your "grand opening," it's really important to slow down and do the proper research before you start signing contracts and spending money. Taking the time to get all your ducks in a row before you open your doors (real or virtual!) is the smartest thing you can do. For example, do you have in mind angel investors who understand what your plans are for your business and can help you get there? Do you know what you want to accomplish in the first three months you'll be open? Remind yourself that developing a solid understanding of the business environment isn't holding you back from achieving your goals. Instead, it's increasing the likelihood that the fruits of your labor will result in success.

DID YOU KNOW? About 600,000 new businesses are launched in the United States each year. Feel unique now? Come on, sure you do.
