A Good, Rather than Bad, Script
Here's the skinny! You may not succeed in your first workout program. You'll hear yourself silently reciting negative "scripts" about your inability to stick to it and feel strong feelings of self-doubt. Don't worry. It's common. You're not a failure. You're not being bad.
"People who have been inactive might be frustrated about the fact that they're starting over," says fitness expert Gin Miller. "Try to avoid beating yourself up with comparisons to what you used to be able to do or with others around you. Remind yourself of your commitment to take back control of your physical wellbeing."
Change the script in your head by staying positive. Instead of thinking, "I've done this before and I failed," replace negative statements with "I can" and "I will" statements. Say, "I can get in shape," "I'm strong," "I will succeed" or "I will commit to my fitness program." Repeat these affirmations to yourself regularly or write them down in your journal for easy reference.
Remember that you and your body are worth the effort. If you change the dialogue in your mind to support your fitness endeavors, your journey will be much easier.
