Get Choosin' and Movin'
Living healthier without integrating physical activity into your routine is like skateboarding without wheels. You won’t get anywhere. Unfortunately, many people have no idea how to start getting in shape.
Look into getting a personal trainer to show you the most effective way to exercise. A trainer can mold an exercise plan to fit your specific needs and meet your personal goals.
Getting a personal trainer may be pricey. Start small. Sign up for a trial training session at your local gym. Many gyms offer at least one session for free to try it out. Remember you won’t need a trainer every day for the rest of your life. You can work out on your own and follow the trainer’s plan and only go to him or her to check in on your progress and make adjustments as necessary. Build in ways to succeed, including a plan, some preparation and rewards. Make sure you set aside a specific time three to four days every week to exercise.
If you’re having trouble getting motivated, enlist social support—your spouse, mom, sister or friend—to exercise with you. You’re less likely to cancel when you know someone is waiting for you.
