To Err Is Human

Some of us dwell on past mistakes, when in actuality mistakes can be great teachers in striving for happier living. It's all about how you process and react to your mistakes. When you beat yourself up over every little thing, you create unnecessary anguish and give the mistake more power than it deserves. So, it's time to take back the power!

One way to arrive at being happier is to pay attention to how you handle your mistakes. To do this, start listening to your inner voice when you make a mistake, without trying to change it. What is it saying to you? What is its tone? Is it critical or optimistic? Your inner critic is very skilled at making you unhappy, but maybe it's time you started leaning more towards being an optimist. When you hear the negativity, start thinking or saying out loud that you will not listen to it anymore. Literally say, "Stop it" or "I won't listen to this negative voice anymore." Over time, you will tune out that critical voice nagging you about your mistakes. You'll be able to think of them as opportunities for change!
